British Airways has introduced an initiative called BA Better World to make flying more sustainable and to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. The company has begun replacing older aircraft with new models that consume less fuel and are more efficient. Additionally, British Airways plans to use Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), made from recycled materials like used cooking oil, with the goal of replacing up to 10% of traditional fuel by 2030.

In the long term, British Airways is developing plans to create aircraft with zero carbon emissions and to implement hydrogen systems for short-haul flights by 2035. The company also supports projects aimed at removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and protecting natural ecosystems. Despite these ambitious plans, many of these technologies are still in the development phase and do not promise immediate results.

Implementing the BA Better World initiative poses practical challenges for the entire industry. While the use of sustainable fuels and new technologies could reduce harmful emissions, it will require significant investments, which might lead to higher ticket prices. Achieving real change will be difficult without substantial support from governments and industry partners.

Moreover, there could be significant obstacles on the path to carbon neutrality. Transitioning to sustainable fuel and implementing innovative technologies is not only costly but also requires time to build the necessary infrastructure and establish standards. Without clear regulations and governmental support, the realization of these plans could be delayed for many years.

While the BA Better World initiative shows British Airways' commitment to sustainable development, questions remain about how effectively and quickly these plans can be put into action. The success of this program will depend on numerous factors, including cooperation with other airlines, governments, and the willingness of the public to support such environmental initiatives.
