Cirium Reveals The World's Airlines & Airports With The Best On-Time Performance In May

Airports and airlines worldwide strive to deliver exceptional on-time performance (OTP) for their passengers. The aviation analytics company Cirium has highlighted the top-performing airlines and airports globally for May 2024, showcasing notable improvements, particularly in the Middle East and Africa.

Airline Performance

Leading the way: Aeromexico

Mexico's national carrier, Aeromexico, topped the list with an impressive OTP of 86.75%, despite experiencing a two-point decrease from the previous month. The airline operated a total of 17,164 flights in May. Benito Juarez International Airport (MEX), Aeromexico's main hub, also saw a four-point decrease in its OTP.

  1. Aeromexico - OTP of 86.75%
  2. LATAM Airlines - OTP of 86.65%, with 44,763 flights
  3. Japan Airlines - OTP of 86.40%, reflecting a slight decrease from 88.17%
  4. Iberia - OTP of 86.17%
  5. Saudia - OTP of 86.09%, showing the most significant improvement with a six-point increase

Airports' leader: King Khalid International Airport (RUH)

According to Cirium, the top five airports with the best OTPs in May 2024 came from various continents, with Latin America having a strong presence. Despite regional conflicts, Middle Eastern airports exhibited low cancellation rates, with King Khalid International Airport in Saudi Arabia leading the pack.

  1. King Khalid International Airport (RUH), Saudi Arabia - OTP of 88.23%
  2. Oslo Airport (OSL), Norway - OTP of 87.97%, accommodating 18,252 flights
  3. Jorge Chavez International Airport (LIM), Peru - OTP of 86.86%, with 14,593 flights
  4. Haneda Airport (HND), Japan - OTP of 85.99%, handling 40,077 flights
  5. Arturo Merino Benitez Airport (SCL), Chile - OTP of 85.86%

Middle East and Africa

Airlines and airports in the Middle East and Africa displayed significant improvements in OTP, reflecting their commitment to enhancing operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.

North America and Latin America

While North American carriers faced challenges due to increased flight cancellations, Latin American airlines managed to retain top positions despite similar obstacles. Latin American airports also performed well, with two airports in the top five globally.
