Transport for Wales (TfW) has recently introduced a special Welsh menu on their trains, bringing the national Eisteddfod celebration to the rails. This initiative offers travelers the chance to experience the finest Welsh cuisine while journeying between North and South Wales.

Passengers can now enjoy dishes such as laverbread bacon, Caerphilly chicken supreme, and glazed bara brith, all prepared by TfW’s onboard chefs. These meals showcase the rich culinary heritage of Wales and provide a memorable dining experience during the journey.

For standard class passengers, TfW has also made available the ‘Eisteddfod Burger’ and a selection of Welsh-produced drinks, ensuring that all travelers can sample the unique flavors of Wales. This effort to include all passengers enhances the overall travel experience.

Piers Croft, On Board Director at TfW, highlighted that the Eisteddfod menu aims to bring the essence of the Eisteddfod to passengers, allowing them to immerse themselves in Welsh culture through cuisine. The initiative is designed to offer more than just a meal; it’s about creating a cultural experience on the train.

Lowri Joyce, Welsh Language Strategic Lead at TfW, emphasized the importance of this launch in promoting Welsh language and culture. She encouraged travelers to choose sustainable travel options to the Eisteddfod Genedlaethol and take advantage of this unique dining opportunity.

This initiative signifies a new chapter in rail travel for Wales, where the journey itself becomes an enriching cultural experience. By introducing traditional Welsh dishes into their onboard menu, TfW is setting a new standard for train travel in the region.

Welsh cuisine is renowned for its use of fresh, local ingredients and traditional recipes that have been passed down through generations. Dishes like laverbread bacon combine seaweed with the savory flavor of bacon, creating a unique taste that is quintessentially Welsh. Caerphilly chicken supreme, another highlight of the menu, features the famous Caerphilly cheese, known for its mild, crumbly texture and slightly tangy flavor.

Bara brith, a traditional Welsh tea loaf made with dried fruits and spices, is a staple in Welsh households and offers a sweet end to the meal. This glazed version brings a modern twist to a beloved classic, ensuring that passengers enjoy both traditional and contemporary Welsh flavors.

The special menu is available for a limited time during the Eisteddfod period, attracting both local and international travelers. This effort by TfW not only enhances the travel experience but also offers a flavorful journey through Welsh culture and heritage.
