A Delta Air Lines flight from Boston to Dublin was forced to return shortly after takeoff on Sunday due to a disturbing incident involving a former NFL player. The passenger, identified as Gosder Cherilus, reportedly urinated on another passenger, prompting the aircraft to turn back to Boston Logan International Airport (BOS).

The flight, originally scheduled to last about six hours, was abruptly cut short, resulting in a total flight time of just over two hours. Upon landing, Cherilus was arrested by Massachusetts State Police, with assistance from Customs and Border Patrol, and charged with disorderly conduct and disturbing the flight crew.

The incident occurred on Delta flight DL154, operated by a Boeing 767-300ER. The flight had departed BOS at 00:12 on Sunday, over three hours late due to unspecified delays. Approximately 55 minutes into the flight, after reaching a cruising altitude of 35,000 feet, the aircraft changed course and began its descent back to Boston, landing at 02:33.

Delta Air Lines responded by accommodating the affected passengers on another flight later that evening. However, the replacement flight did not depart until over 12 hours later, significantly delaying the passengers' arrival in Dublin.

Cherilus, a former first-round NFL draft pick, played for the Detroit Lions, Indianapolis Colts, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers before retiring in 2017. The incident has drawn attention to the FAA's strict no-tolerance policy for unruly passenger behavior, with potential civil penalties of up to $37,000 per violation.
