Holidaymakers faced turmoil at Heathrow Airport as Terminal 2 was evacuated by emergency services.

Disarray ensued at the airport following concerns over a reported 'suspicious item', prompting a thorough investigation by the Metropolitan Police. Authorities have since confirmed the incident has been resolved, yet passengers continue to endure extensive queues at security checkpoints.

A Heathrow spokesperson stated, "This morning, our teams collaborated with emergency services to address an incident in Terminal 2, now successfully resolved. Passengers flying from Terminal 2 are advised to consult their airline, while operations across the rest of the airport remain unaffected."

Social media images depicted crowds inside the airport and lengthy security lines, with reports of a chaotic rush when the terminal reopened. Despite the airport's website indicating a five-minute wait, current estimates suggest security queues are taking up to ninety minutes.

The disruption is expected to impact England supporters traveling to Germany for the Euro 2024 quarter-final on Saturday, with some flights delayed or canceled according to departure boards at Terminal 2.

Terminal 2, also known as the Queen's Terminal, boasts a sustainable design aimed at reducing carbon emissions, accommodating European carriers in 2A and international carriers in 2B. Terminal 1 ceased passenger operations in 2015, with future plans for Terminal 2 expansion.
