On May 1, 2004, Emirates landed its first aircraft in Vienna, initiating a significant presence in Austria. A month later, the airline established a daily route between Vienna and Dubai. This June, Emirates marks its 20th anniversary in Vienna, reflecting on its substantial growth and future plans.

Since its inaugural flight, Emirates has become a vital part of Austrian aviation. Initially led by Martin Gross and now managed by Elisabeth Zauner, the airline expanded from a single daily flight to 14 weekly flights using the Boeing 777-300ER. Over 5 million passengers have traveled on more than 20,500 flights between Vienna and Dubai.

To commemorate the anniversary, Emirates hosted a celebration at Vienna International Airport featuring a Viennese waltz performance. Additionally, Emirates offered a special promotion for its Skywards members, including the chance to win one of 20 Tier Upgrades.

In 2014, the Emirates A380 made its first landing in Vienna, piloted by Austrian Captain Markus Ausserhofer. This event marked a milestone for the airline in Austria. Emirates continues to serve Vienna with the A380 and Boeing 777-300ER, facilitating travel for over 1,000 passengers daily.

Julian Jäger, Joint CEO and COO of Vienna Airport, highlighted the significance of Emirates' operations, noting their contribution to the airport’s development and passenger experience. Since 2004, Emirates SkyCargo has transported over 249,000 tonnes of freight, connecting Austrian exports to global markets.

Emirates' 20-year presence in Vienna underscores its commitment to providing connectivity and service excellence. The airline looks forward to further innovations and continued success in the region.
