EMR Unveils New Website Accessibility Tool for Travelers

East Midlands Railway (EMR) has introduced a new feature on its website to enhance accessibility for travelers with disabilities and language needs. This innovative tool aims to ensure that all passengers can access online content and services without any barriers.

The newly launched Recite Me assistive technology on the EMR website provides a range of accessibility and language support features. Travelers can now benefit from screen reading functionality, various reading aids, and customizable styling options to improve their digital experience.

One of the standout features is the on-demand live translation service, offering over 100 languages and 65 text-to-speech options. This makes it easier for international travelers and those who speak English as a second language to access vital information about their journeys.

Philippa Cresswell, Customer Service Director at East Midlands Railway, emphasized that navigating the internet can be challenging for those with access barriers, and the new tools are designed to help customers find all the information they need for their trips.

Ross Linnett, Founder and CEO of Recite Me, highlighted the importance of providing an inclusive online experience, stating that it is crucial to offer a digital environment where everyone can access information and services without hassle. This move by EMR is expected to significantly improve the travel experience for a substantial portion of the population who may face difficulties due to disabilities, learning difficulties, visual impairments, or language barriers.

For travelers, this initiative means easier access to booking information, schedules, and other essential travel details, enhancing the overall journey experience. By implementing these comprehensive tools, EMR is setting a standard for inclusivity and customer support in the travel industry.

This development by EMR is a noteworthy step toward making travel more accessible and convenient for everyone, ensuring that all passengers, regardless of their abilities or language proficiency, can navigate and utilize the railway's online services with ease.
