Travelers in Europe are gearing up for widespread disruptions in July due to a series of planned strikes across several countries. These labor actions, aimed at securing better wages and working conditions, are expected to impact both flights and train services, causing significant inconvenience for those traveling within and beyond the continent.

Some of these strikes have been scheduled months in advance, while others are being announced on short notice. It is advisable for travelers to stay updated on potential disruptions to avoid unexpected travel inconveniences.

In the event of flight or train cancellations or delays, passengers are entitled to new tickets or compensation. Passengers should ensure they take the necessary steps to secure their compensation or alternative travel arrangements.

UK: Gatwick Airport Faces Strikes in July

London’s Gatwick Airport is preparing for substantial disruptions as around 300 staff members, including security and passenger services personnel, are set to strike over pay issues. The planned walkouts are scheduled for July 12-14 and July 18-21. These actions are expected to cause delays in baggage screening and affect passengers needing special assistance. If the pay dispute is not resolved, further strikes may occur during the busy summer travel period.

Türkiye: Air Traffic Controllers Strike Hits Antalya

Major flight delays have hit Türkiye’s Antalya Airport due to an ongoing strike by air traffic controllers. The strike, which focuses on demands for better pay and working conditions, is affecting around 50% of arrivals and departures. The action is expected to continue until July 14. Passengers should expect delays and check flight schedules frequently.

France: Potential Strikes Threaten Paris Olympics

Union members from CGT-RATP have issued a seven-month strike notice that could impact the Paris metro and bus networks, including during the summer’s Olympic Games. The strike notice spans from February 5 to September 9. The French Senate has recently passed a bill that seeks to restrict strikes during major events, such as the Paris 2024 Olympics, by requiring more advance warning and ensuring minimum service levels. The bill is awaiting approval from the French National Assembly.

Netherlands: Public Transport Strikes Announced for September

A public transport strike has been announced in the Netherlands’ largest cities, including Amsterdam, The Hague, and Rotterdam, scheduled for September 12. This action is part of a larger protest ahead of the government’s budget proposal, with workers pushing for earlier retirement options for those in physically demanding roles. Further disruptions are possible if demands are not met.
