Extra GWR Trains Ensure Smooth Travel for Cardiff Concertgoers
Travelers heading to Cardiff for the Foo Fighters concert on Tuesday, June 25, will benefit from additional train services provided by Great Western Railway (GWR). These extra trains are specifically arranged to ensure concertgoers can return home safely and comfortably after the event.
GWR will operate 10 extra trains, offering over 5,000 additional seats to handle the large crowd. Despite these efforts, trains are still expected to be very busy, so planning ahead is crucial. The short walk from Principality Stadium to Cardiff Central station makes train travel a convenient option for concert attendees.
Key travel details include:
- Five trains will depart from Cardiff to Swansea starting at 22:52.
- Ten trains will head towards Newport and beyond, starting at 22:30.
- Notable departures include:
- 22:30 to Bristol Temple Meads (arriving at 23:34)
- 22:42 to Newport (arriving at 22:57)
- 22:52 to Bristol Temple Meads (arriving at 23:43)
- 23:00 to Bristol Temple Meads (arriving at 23:50)
- 23:15 to Bristol Parkway and Swindon (arriving at 00:48 and 01:11 respectively)
- Additional services at 23:20, 23:30, 23:40, 23:43, and 00:13 to Bristol Temple Meads
For a seamless experience, concertgoers traveling east towards Newport will queue on the square in front of Cardiff Central station rather than Riverside Car Park. This queuing system is designed to manage the large crowds effectively, ensuring orderly boarding.
GWR Customer Service Director Rachel Geliamassi highlighted the importance of safety and planning for travelers. She encouraged checking journey times and connections on the GWR website and allowing ample time for the return journey.
Transport for Wales will also add capacity on routes in and out of Cardiff. However, due to the high demand, passengers are advised to allow plenty of time for their travel. Queues for Valleys services will be at the rear of the station, and Cardiff Queen Street station will close at 21:30, except for accessible access and those traveling to Cardiff Bay.
Doors to the Principality Stadium open at 17:00 for Pink and Taylor Swift concerts, and at 19:00 for the Foo Fighters, with all events expected to conclude around 22:00.
