Movies about princes and princesses take us to a fairy-tale atmosphere where magic reigns. That's why authors often invent countries where such characters could live.

And the audience sees these states or nations as something completely unique, different from ordinary life. MovieWeb 's selection tells about the most famous of them.

Genovia (The Princess Diaries)

Although people can't physically visit the beautiful but small country that is Genovia, it's nice to know that Meg Cabot, the author of the book that became the basis for the movie, drew inspiration for the kingdom from an amazing place in Europe. Cabot said that Monaco was the prototype.

Costa Luna (Princess Protection Program)

When Princess Rosalinda Maria Montoya Fiore is about to be crowned queen of her tiny fictional country of Costa Luna, a neighboring ruler shows up to spoil the fun by forcing the princess into hiding. Costa Luna is supposed to be a small island nation that doesn't show up on most maps, at least that's what the princess says. This place resembles Puerto Rico or Costa Rica.

Belgravia (The Princess Switch)

A beautiful European country that is absolutely obsessed with Christmas. The architecture is amazing, the people are incredibly friendly, and they hold a national baking contest every year. The only thing that would make this nation more impressive is if it were real.

Maldonia (The Princess and the Frog)

Prince Naveen comes from the newly created nation of Maldonia. He is looking for a good wife due to disagreements with his parents. Although we don't know much about the fictional country, it's probably better that its future is not in Naveen's hands.
