Fare Hike Alert for Bus Passengers in Cornwall
Bus fares in Cornwall are set to increase starting from Sunday, affecting passengers across various routes.Transport for Cornwall has attributed this change to escalations in inflation rates and operational expenses.
The adjustments will see fare increases ranging from 20p to £16, depending on the type of fare.Certain fares, such as adult single tickets in bands two to five, will remain unaffected by the price adjustments.
Transport for Cornwall emphasized that while they had been subsidizing fares to maintain lower prices since the introduction of the Bus Fares Pilot in April 2022, inflation and operating costs necessitate a revision in fares.
However, efforts are being made to mitigate the impact on passengers. Bus operators are collaborating with Cornwall Council and the Department for Transport to cap all single bus tickets at £2 until December 31, 2024.
For example, an adult band one single fare will see an increase from £1.60 to £2.00, while a return fare will change from £2.40 to £3.50.
Notably, there will be no changes to adult, child, or family tickets within the Cornwall fare plan. However, town fares will see increases, with the maximum price for an adult town month ticket rising to £56. Children under five will continue to benefit from free travel under the revised fare structure.
