John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York has introduced an innovative baggage sanitization system, the first of its kind in the world. The system, developed by Clean, uses UV-C technology to eliminate 99.9% of harmful pathogens from luggage surfaces in a matter of seconds. This cutting-edge solution is currently available for trial at JFK's Terminal 7 this summer.

New and Innovative

Baggage at airports passes through numerous hands and surfaces, accumulating a significant amount of bacteria and pathogens along the way. Recognizing this, Clean has developed a UV-C sanitization system aimed at providing passengers with a safer and more sanitary travel experience.

Clean's UV-C technology ensures that baggage surfaces are almost entirely free from harmful microorganisms. JFK Terminal 7, managed by JFK Millenium Partners, is the first to trial this system, offering passengers the opportunity to sanitize two bags for $10. This quick and effective process allows passengers to clean their luggage before heading home, enhancing overall travel hygiene.

Rodney Jones, CEO of Clean, emphasized the importance of maintaining passenger confidence and health, stating, "As passengers return en masse to traveling the globe freely, it's crucial that we implement safe, effective solutions to maintain passenger confidence and ensure a healthier travel experience for all. Clean will allow passengers to sanitize their baggage after every flight. Simply gather your luggage from the baggage claim carousel, drop your bags at the Clean machine, and within seconds your bag will be sanitized – because what you bring home with you matters!"

In other news, Aer Lingus and JFK Millenium Partners announced that Aer Lingus will move its operations to the new Terminal 6 once it opens in early 2026. This move will include a new lounge aimed at enhancing the premium experience for passengers. JetBlue, Aer Lingus' American partner, will also operate out of Terminal 6, simplifying connections for Aer Lingus passengers arriving from Ireland, who will already have gone through US Customs and Border Protection (USCBP) Pre Clearance.

Additionally, JFK's Terminal One is seeking lounge operators for its new facility. The terminal, part of a $19 billion project, is set to become the largest at JFK upon completion in 2030. The first phase is scheduled to open in 2026, featuring a landside lounge with 4,000 square feet and an airside lounge with over 9,000 square feet.
