Dubai-based airline flydubai has unveiled seven new island destinations for the summer, targeting leisure travelers with enhanced services. This initiative, announced last week, includes routes to islands across Europe, Asia, and Africa. The new services run from June 14th to July 15th and feature special holiday packages.

Starting this summer, flydubai's new routes will connect passengers to seven islands in five countries, operated by its Boeing 737 MAX aircraft equipped with lie-flat business class seats for optimal comfort. The destinations include three Greek islands, reflecting the airline's focus on popular tourist spots.

Flydubai's fleet expansion and increased frequency of flights will improve connectivity for travelers passing through Dubai International Airport (DXB). The airline, in coordination with its sister airline Emirates, aims to capture the summer tourist market effectively.

In the first half of 2024, flydubai has already expanded its network significantly, adding destinations such as Mombasa, Penang, Basel, and the Baltic states of Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. Additionally, the airline plans to grow its fleet with the delivery of 30 Boeing 787-9 aircraft ordered at the 2023 Dubai Airshow, enabling it to fly longer routes and accommodate more passengers.

Future expansions include potential routes to London, Thailand, and Australia, along with the introduction of a premium economy cabin, aligning flydubai's services with Emirates. The airline's growth reflects its strategic aim to enhance its route network and passenger experience.

Among the new destinations, Greece stands out with three new island routes. These are in addition to the existing flights between Dubai and Athens, a route also served by Emirates and Aegean Airlines. The codeshare partnership between Emirates and Aegean Airlines has bolstered tourism in Greece, and flydubai's expansion into Greek islands is a natural progression of this collaboration.

The Greek Tourism Minister has previously invited Emirates to launch flights to New York via Thessaloniki, enhancing the connectivity between Greece and the United States. This proposal is under consideration and may be implemented once Emirates receives its new Airbus A350s or Boeing 787s.
