Travelers in 2025 are increasingly drawn to destinations beyond mainstream tourist routes, as indicated by ABTA’s recent findings. Over a notable share of participants revealed plans to explore areas outside Europe and North America, reflecting a growing enthusiasm for distant and distinctive locations. Countries across Asia, such as Japan, Thailand, and India, alongside Australia in Oceania, are gaining remarkable attention for their varied cultural and environmental attractions.

This pattern illustrates a significant rise in extended travel ambitions compared to earlier data. Asia, in particular, is projected to experience the highest surge, with 11% of travelers preparing for journeys there, up from 8.9% in the prior year. Similarly, Oceania and Africa are observing increasing attention, with Australia and South Africa ranking among the most desirable locations, offering visitors diverse experiences and unique ecosystems.

Japan is celebrated for its harmonious blend of ancient heritage and futuristic cities, appealing to those seeking contrast in their journeys. Thailand’s lively traditions and idyllic beaches captivate international tourists, while India opens doors to profound historical and cultural exploration. Australia offers attractions ranging from iconic fauna to dynamic cityscapes. Africa’s sprawling plains and exhilarating wildlife encounters continue to charm explorers pursuing unforgettable adventures.

The growing fascination with long-haul travel can be linked to various influences, such as the affordability of transcontinental flights and the rising demand for tailored, immersive trips. Enhanced travel networks and an increase in online planning resources have simplified access to remote destinations. Additionally, there is a noticeable shift toward less congested alternatives to popular European spots, drawing travelers to tranquil and culturally rich regions.

For those embarking on such adventures, these changes present both opportunities and hurdles. Lengthy itineraries and potentially higher expenses demand thoughtful organization, including early reservations and guidance from travel advisors. Despite these challenges, the allure of discovering unfamiliar destinations and immersing in diverse traditions outweighs the obstacles, especially for those embracing sustainability and global exploration.
