Hawaiian Airlines Launches New Program for Inter-Island Travel
Hawaiian Airlines has announced the launch of a new program, "Chai by Hawaiian," designed to simplify inter-island travel for Hawaii residents. Starting in January 2024, participants in the program will enjoy benefits such as one free checked bag and quarterly discounts of up to 20% on inter-island flights. This initiative highlights the airline's commitment to providing affordable and convenient travel options, particularly for family visits and medical appointments that often require inter-island flights.
Inspired by a successful program launched over a decade ago by Alaska Airlines for Alaskan residents, this initiative addresses the unique needs of islanders, for whom flying is often the only means of transportation between regions, according to Hawaiian Airlines CEO Joe Sprague.
Collaboration and Expanded Opportunities
The "Chai by Hawaiian" program is part of a broader collaboration with Alaska Airlines, which has significantly expanded Hawaiian Airlines’ route network. Hawaii residents now have access to three times as many destinations across North America. Additionally, the integration of the two airlines’ loyalty programs offers passengers even more rewards.
Hawaiian Airlines is also strengthening its international reach. Seasonal flights between Hawaii and New Zealand are resuming, creating opportunities for both tourists and locals. Honolulu will serve as a convenient hub for connecting flights, catering to passengers with extended itineraries.
Joining the program is easy and free—all that’s required is registration with the HawaiianMiles loyalty program, which can be done online. In addition, Hawaiian Airlines celebrates its 95th anniversary this month, marking nearly a century of dedication to its passengers. New projects and route expansions affirm the airline’s commitment to maintaining its leadership in the region, attracting tourists while supporting local communities.
