The summer season on the Spanish island of Mallorca is under threat due to severe storms and heavy rainfall, leading to significant destruction. Streets and hotels across the island have been flooded, cars swept away by torrents of water, and the Spanish National Weather Service (AEMET) has issued a red alert for the region.

According to AEMET, up to 180 mm of rain may fall within just a few hours in the northern and northeastern parts of Mallorca, including the areas of Arta, Pollenca, and Sa Pobla. The rest of the island is under an orange alert. The situation on Mallorca is further complicated by the fact that the island is hosting a large number of tourists at the peak of the season, exacerbating the impact of the natural disaster.

Videos shared on social media show flooded hotel lobbies, with staff wading through knee-deep water. In addition to Mallorca, a similar situation is occurring on Ibiza, where an orange alert has also been issued due to the threat of storms and heavy rainfall.

This situation highlights the importance of timely informing tourists about potential natural threats and taking precautions when planning trips to regions prone to natural disasters.
