Iberia Increases Seat Capacity by 30% Between Puerto Rico and Europe in 2024
Iberia is significantly boosting its seat capacity between Puerto Rico and Europe in 2024. The airline will offer nearly 200,000 seats this year, marking a 30% increase compared to 2023 and a remarkable 140% rise compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019.
For the first time, Iberia will operate a daily flight on this route for most of the year, setting a new record in connectivity between San Juan and Madrid. This enhanced service will also extend into the upcoming winter season in Europe, where nearly 90,000 seats will be available, a 150% increase from 2019.
This route is serviced by the A330-200 aircraft, which features 288 seats across Business and Economy classes. The A330-200 is also noted for its fuel efficiency, reducing consumption by 15% compared to older models.
Marina Colunga, Iberia's commercial director for Latin America, highlighted the airline's overall capacity increase in the region by 16% this year, offering more than 5.3 million seats. This expansion is seen as a key step in strengthening Iberia's presence in the Latin American market.
Carlos Mercado Santiago, executive director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company (CTPR), expressed enthusiasm about the new daily flights. He emphasized that this development will enhance connectivity between San Juan and Madrid, fostering greater tourist exchange and positively impacting Puerto Rico's tourism industry and economic growth.
Iberia's increased service is expected to provide more convenience and better connectivity between Puerto Rico and Europe, marking a significant milestone in the region's tourism sector.
