The right hotel room plays a crucial role in determining how your vacation goes. In fact, it serves as your temporary shelter, where you should feel comfortable and relaxed.

What should you look for when searching for and booking a hotel? Reddit users have shared their secrets and "red flags" that signal the quality of service and rooms, as reported by UNIAN.

Pungent air freshener smell

The strong smell of air freshener may indicate an attempt to mask unpleasant odors, such as mold or sewage.

Small brown spots

Take a close look around the room. If you see small, dark brown spots on the top of the bed, under the mattress, or in the seams, it is likely that bed bugs are present in the room.

Driver's reaction

If your driver asks you on the way to the hotel if you are sure about the route, it is better to think twice before checking in. However, if this doesn't deter you, take a closer look at the front desk for bulletproof glass.

Age of the staff

If the average age of the staff is no more than 20-23 years old, this may indicate that the hotel management hires only the cheapest workers who usually do not know their rights and responsibilities.

Availability of complete information on the Internet

Before booking, you should inquire about the exact location of the hotel and whether you need to leave a cash deposit at the front desk upon check-in. However, the most important and basic advice is to read reviews and research offers.
