ITA Airways moved into Lufthansa Group Terminals at Frankfurt and Munich airports as part of the launch of its 2025 summer operation schedule. Currently, the airline flies solely out of Frankfurt Terminal 1 and Munich Terminal 2—which is mainly used by Lufthansa and its partners. To accommodate this relocation ITA Airways will now be operating together with other Lufthansa Group carriers offering a simplified operation and flight coordination for all travelers, be it domestic or international.

All of the airport functions — check-in, boarding gates, baggage sortation and Lufthansa-operated passenger service desks were moved to the Lufthansa terminal areas. As a result, ITA Airways joins other Lufthansa Group airlines already co-located at major European hubs like Zurich, Vienna, Brussels, and Rome. Consolidation at Frankfurt and Munich shorten transfer distances for connecting flights as well as increase high-speed rail accessibility especially for Terminal 1 travellers from Frankfurt.

This shift significantly enhances the convenience of travel within Europe and beyond. Since ITA Airways uses the same terminals as Lufthansa Group airlines, passengers will benefit from reduced walking distance, quicker transfers and less time when changing between flights. This is especially beneficial for those with tight layovers or complex itineraries involving multiple airlines under the same group.

Another important enhancement is that now customers will get a larger codeshare network as well. Over 100 new route combinations can be booked using a single ticket, connecting travelers to lesser-known destinations in Italy such as Lampedusa and Pantelleria. The relocation also grants access to ITA lounges for Lufthansa as well as any of their passengers and vise versa, additional frequent flyer programs aligned to offer cross-carrier point accrual/redemption.

This integration is a sophisticated enhancement of European air travels, further solidifying ITA Airways commitment to the Lufthansa family. For travelers it translates into faster travel, better airport flow, better connectivity and opportunity for more reward flexibility. As competition grows among European carriers, moves like this one are reshaping what passengers can expect in terms of comfort and convenience.
