Lufthansa Innovates with Meta Quest 3 Headsets in Business Class
Lufthansa, in partnership with Meta, is set to enhance its business class experience by introducing Meta Quest 3 mixed reality headsets on select long-haul flights this summer. This initiative marks the airline as the first to offer such advanced technology in-flight, providing passengers with a unique entertainment experience.
The collaboration was announced on May 13, 2024, via a tweet from Lufthansa, highlighting the introduction of the headsets as part of a trial on its new Allegris Business Class flights. Meta has tailored content for the headsets, including movies, TV shows, podcasts, and games, aiming to transform the in-flight entertainment landscape.
Lufthansa's new Allegris cabin debuted on April 26 on its latest Airbus A350-900, known as D-AIXT, following delays due to supply chain issues. The cabin, which promises an upgraded business class experience, faced setbacks with seat and aircraft deliveries, leading to temporary storage of two other A350-900s intended to feature the new design.
The introduction of the Allegris Business Class on routes from Munich to Vancouver and Toronto showcases Lufthansa's commitment to improving passenger experience despite earlier challenges. The airline continues to expand its offerings, although the full launch of its first class cabin in the Allegris design has been delayed.
The Meta Quest 3, unveiled in September 2023, represents a significant upgrade from its predecessor, featuring enhanced resolution and audio capabilities. This partnership not only highlights Lufthansa's focus on innovation but also positions the airline as a leader in adopting new technologies to enhance passenger comfort and experience.
