Major Disruptions on Chingford Line for Summer Travelers
Travelers planning to use the Chingford line this summer should prepare for major disruptions due to essential bridge replacement work. From July 20 to August 4, there will be no train services between Hackney Downs and Chingford stations, impacting journeys significantly.
London Overground, Greater Anglia, and Network Rail will host information events to assist passengers. These events will be held on June 18 at Hackney Downs station, June 27 at Liverpool Street station, and July 11 at Chingford station. Representatives will provide details on alternative travel options and answer questions.
During the 16-day disruption, replacement buses will run every 20 minutes between Hackney Downs and Chingford, stopping at all affected stations. Travelers can also use the Victoria line from Walthamstow Central to central London and local bus routes, including routes 97, 212, 230, and 275, to reach their destinations.
For Greater Anglia services, trains from Liverpool Street to Hertford East will start and end at Stratford. The usual Stratford-Meridian Water services will not operate, but other services will make additional stops at Meridian Water and Northumberland Park. Services to Cambridge and Stansted Airport will be diverted via Seven Sisters, bypassing Tottenham Hale.
This disruption is due to Network Rail’s project to replace a deteriorating 150-year-old bridge near Hackney Downs Park. Additional maintenance will also be carried out on overhead lines, points, and drainage systems along the route.
Passengers on the Enfield Town and Cheshunt lines should check for timetable changes. A meet-the-manager event will be held at Enfield Town station on July 17 to provide further information.
Additional service disruptions will occur on June 23, July 13-14, August 17-18, and early September due to preparatory and follow-up works.
