New Direct Route from London to Northern Norway Announced by Norwegian
Magnus Thome Maursund, Chief Commercial Officer at Norwegian, expressed excitement over the new route, highlighting Northern Norway's appeal for its northern lights and Arctic wilderness. The flight offers a quick under-four-hour journey from London to Northern Norway, enhancing connectivity between these regions.
Harstad-Narvik Airport provides easy access to stunning locations such as the Lofoten Islands. This part of Northern Norway is a year-round destination for nature enthusiasts, featuring cooler summers and the midnight sun, which offer ideal hiking conditions. In winter, the region provides prime viewing opportunities for the northern lights under the Arctic skies.
The new route is expected to boost tourism and local economies by providing easier access to the region’s natural attractions. Vegeir Selboe, Marketing Manager of Destination Lofoten, emphasized the positive impact on tourism and the local community, anticipating increased year-round visitors to sites like the Lofoten region, Narvikfjellet ski resort, and Vesterålen whale-watching.
Starting on November 2, the London Gatwick to Harstad-Narvik route will operate weekly on Saturdays throughout the winter season. This development coincides with Narvik's selection as the host city for the FIS Alpine World Cup Ski Championships in 2029, offering unique Arctic circle skiing experiences with breathtaking fjord vistas.
Norwegian has also introduced a new direct route from Harstad-Narvik to Bergamo/Milano, Italy, for the winter season. This complements the previously announced summer route to Palma del Mallorca, Spain, and year-round connections to Oslo, with additional summer flights to Bergen.
The introduction of these routes underscores Norwegian's commitment to expanding travel options and enhancing accessibility to Northern Norway's remarkable landscapes and attractions.
