Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) is celebrating a significant milestone with the launch of a new direct route to Copenhagen, Denmark. The inaugural flight, a result of the partnership between ATL and Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS), marks the commencement of daily nonstop flights from Atlanta to Copenhagen starting on June 17, 2024.

The event underscores ATL's expanding international connectivity and was attended by notable figures including Balram Bheodari, the General Manager of ATL; Anko van der Werff, CEO of SAS; and Jesper Møller Sørensen, the Ambassador of Denmark to the United States.

Scheduled for Monday, June 17, the event kicks off with media arrivals at 4:15 p.m., followed by a ceremonial water cannon salute at 5:15 p.m., a traditional aviation tribute for inaugural flights. A formal press event will then start at 5:45 p.m., featuring statements from key dignitaries and insights into the strategic importance of this new route.

Taking place at Concourse F, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the event celebrates the new route and offers a platform for discussing future plans and the potential benefits of this international partnership.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) has a storied history, being the first airport to serve over 100 million passengers in a single year and consistently leading in global passenger traffic. The airport's direct economic impact on Georgia is $66 billion annually. Known for its excellence, ATL frequently wins awards for concessions, operations, sustainability, and architectural engineering.

This new route to Copenhagen not only strengthens ties between the U.S. and Denmark but also enhances travel options for passengers, reflecting ATL's status as a global aviation leader. The partnership with SAS is expected to boost both business and tourism, offering more convenience and fostering closer international relations.
