Norse Atlantic Airways Flight Aborts Takeoff at JFK to Avoid Runway Collision

On Thursday evening, October 3, 2024, Norse Atlantic Airways Flight Z0702, bound for London, was forced to abort its takeoff from JFK Airport to avoid another plane on an intersecting runway. The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner was accelerating when pilots noticed a "potential obstruction" and quickly applied the brakes, bringing the plane to a halt at approximately 100 mph before safely turning off the runway.

The incident occurred just after 6 p.m. at the busy New York airport. According to data from FlightRadar24, the aircraft reached a speed of 87 knots before aborting its takeoff and returning to the taxiway. After the brief delay, the flight resumed takeoff and landed safely at London’s Gatwick Airport six hours later.

Although the event caused concern for some passengers, the atmosphere in the cabin remained calm. Norse Atlantic Airways later confirmed the incident, emphasizing that there was no imminent danger and that the pilots responded as trained.

The airline stated, "The safety and security of our customers and crew is always our top priority." The flight departed with only a minor delay following the rejected takeoff.
