On August 21, one of the largest volcanoes in Peru, Ubinas, awakened. A warning about the danger of a possible eruption and volcanic ash was issued in the region.

The National Volcanological Center (CENVUL) reported that the crater is on orange alert, La Repubblica writes. Meanwhile, frightening footage is appearing online.

On August 21, an explosion over 3,000 meters high was recorded in the crater. It is already known that the areas of Ubinas and Moquegua were affected by the volcano's awakening.

The ash emissions have been going on for several days now. Local authorities have assured that they will provide the necessary assistance, including humanitarian aid, to residents of the affected settlements.

As of August 23, ash and gas emissions reached heights of up to 1,200 meters above the volcano's summit.

Ubinas is the most active of the 400 volcanoes in the Pacific Ring of Fire. It was last active in July 2019.
