Rail passengers using Avanti West Coast services should anticipate major disruptions on Sunday, 2 February, due to an RMT union strike. The planned walkout will result in a reduced timetable, fewer available trains, and limited service hours. Additionally, engineering works in Crewe will force route alterations, including the suspension of direct trains between London and Liverpool, which could lead to increased congestion and delays on alternative services.

With a constrained schedule, Avanti West Coast will operate just one train per hour between London Euston and Birmingham, Manchester, and Preston, with a limited extension to Glasgow. A separate shuttle service will run between Liverpool and Crewe. Operating hours will be restricted, with the first train departing London Euston before 09:00 and the last train leaving around 17:00. No Avanti West Coast services will operate to North Wales, Blackpool, or Edinburgh on the strike day.

For travelers, the disruptions could cause considerable inconvenience, particularly for those heading to key destinations for business or leisure. Limited train availability may result in overcrowded carriages, extended waiting times, and potential delays. Those with flexible schedules should consider adjusting their travel plans or seeking alternative modes of transportation, such as coach services or regional rail routes unaffected by the strike.

To minimize the impact, passengers are encouraged to check their journey details in advance and explore other options. Those with pre-booked tickets for 2 February can travel between 1 and 4 February instead. Refunds are available for those who no longer wish to travel. Given the high demand for remaining services, securing reservations early and monitoring live updates is advisable to avoid last-minute issues.

This disruption highlights the challenges that labor disputes pose for travelers relying on the rail network. With recurring strikes affecting rail operations, passengers should remain adaptable and prepared for sudden changes in service. Ensuring access to reliable travel updates and maintaining flexibility in scheduling will be key to mitigating the impact of future disruptions.
