Ryanair Adds 2,000 Seats for UEFA Euros 2024 England vs Denmark Match in Frankfurt
Ryanair has announced the addition of 2,000 extra seats to accommodate football fans traveling to Frankfurt for the UEFA Euro 2024 championship. This move comes as fans prepare to watch England face Denmark on June 20.
These additional seats are available on flights to Hahn Airport (HHN), marketed by Ryanair as Frankfurt-Hahn Airport. The extra seats will be on routes connecting Bristol (BRS), Manchester (MAN), Birmingham (BHX), and London Stansted (STN) with HHN. Extra flights will depart from these British airports on June 19, with return flights scheduled for June 21 or June 22.
Jade Kirwan, Head of Communications at Ryanair, emphasized the airline's commitment to providing convenient travel options for fans. She noted that these extra flights ensure fans can fully experience the pre- and post-game atmosphere in Frankfurt.
Despite Ryanair's efforts, UEFA has already sold out tickets for the games during three separate ticket phases. The association also conducted a last-minute sale of 100,000 tickets on May 2, which quickly sold out.
However, overall connectivity to Germany has seen only marginal growth in light of the tournament. Data from aviation analytics company Cirium reveals that while the number of flights and seats to Germany has increased from 2022 to 2024, the growth is not significantly higher compared to previous years. In June and July 2024, airlines have scheduled 139,597 flights, resulting in 24.7 million seats, a slight increase from 2023.
Certain German airports, such as Munich (MUC), Berlin Brandenburg (BER), and Hamburg (HAM), are experiencing notable growth, likely influenced by the UEFA Euro 2024 host cities. However, some of this growth might be unrelated to the tournament, as indicated by the top-growing routes at MUC, which include destinations outside Europe.
Ryanair's addition of extra seats is a strategic move to cater to football fans, ensuring they can enjoy the UEFA Euro 2024 matches with ease and comfort. This initiative underscores the airline's flexibility and commitment to meeting the needs of its passengers during significant events.
