Singapore Airlines Offers $10,000 Compensation to Passengers Injured on Boeing 777 Flight
Singapore Airlines has announced a compensation package for passengers who were injured during severe turbulence on flight SQ321. The announcement was made public on June 10, 2024, highlighting the airline's commitment to support those affected by the incident.
The turbulence struck on May 21 during a flight from London Heathrow to Singapore, causing serious injuries to several passengers. Singapore Airlines has offered $10,000 to passengers with minor injuries and an advance payment of $25,000 to those with more severe injuries. The airline also promised additional compensation tailored to the specific needs of passengers requiring long-term medical care.
The Boeing 777-300ER encountered violent turbulence near Myanmar, resulting in a sudden altitude drop that caused unbelted passengers to be thrown around the cabin. This led to a range of injuries, from minor to life-threatening, including skull, brain, and spinal injuries. The flight carried 211 passengers and 18 crew members.
Following the incident, the aircraft was diverted to Bangkok, where the injured received medical treatment. Singapore Airlines arranged for family members to join the injured passengers in Bangkok and has been covering their medical expenses. The airline is also offering a full refund of the airfare to all passengers on the flight and compensation for delays according to European Union or United Kingdom regulations.
In a Facebook post, Singapore Airlines confirmed that compensation offers had been emailed to all affected passengers, with instructions on how to proceed with their claims. The airline assured that any requests for assistance would be promptly addressed.
Singapore Airlines' proactive approach in handling the aftermath of the incident underscores its dedication to passenger safety and welfare, aiming to provide comprehensive support during this challenging time.
