The eastern part of Turkey, in particular the cities of Van, Bitlis and Mush, is covered by heavy snowfall. As a result of the bad weather, 158 settlements cannot be reached as the roads are blocked.

It has been snowing for two days. Snow removal crews have started working to open the closed roads.

In the Bashkale district of Van, the snow has reached 10 centimeters thick. Schoolchildren could barely get to their schools, while business owners were clearing snow in front of their shops, TRT Haber reports.

Residents of Mush also came out to clear the snow on the streets and near their workplaces.

The Secretary General of the Special Provincial Administration, Sheikhmus Yentur, said that the snow had caused problems for residents of highland areas and noted that crews were working to open rural roads.
