Snowfall in the Sahara Desert: when was the last time and what did it look like

It's hard to imagine snowfall in a hot desert, but this wonder of the world does happen from time to time, albeit not for long. The last time such a case was recorded was in 2022.

The snowfall in the desert looked truly fabulous. It is interesting that in recent years, there have been more such miracles of nature compared to other years, the Daily Mail writes.

After the temperature dropped below freezing, a layer of snow could be seen on the sand of the Sahara Desert last winter.

The snowfall in the Sahara is the fifth time in 42 years that snow has fallen in the city of Aïn Sefra in northwestern Algeria. Previous cases also occurred in 2016, 2018 and 2021.

The very first snowfall was recorded in 1979. Back then, the blizzard lasted only half an hour. Over the years, the snow has not been melting on the sand for longer and longer. This is due to climate change, so scientists assume that tourists near the Sahara will face an abnormal cold snap more than once.
