Spirit Airlines Expands U.S. Military Benefits to Include Families
Spirit Airlines has announced an expansion of its benefits for active-duty U.S. military service members. Starting immediately, the airline will extend these benefits to include spouses and children traveling with the service member. The expanded benefits offer two free checked bags, one free carry-on bag, and one free personal item per person, as well as complimentary priority boarding.
This enhancement acknowledges the sacrifices made by military families. Matt Klein, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at Spirit Airlines, emphasized the airline’s gratitude towards military families and their daily sacrifices. He noted that these expanded benefits, combined with Spirit's affordable fares to over 85 destinations, aim to make travel more accessible and enjoyable for military families.
Spirit Airlines has a long history of supporting U.S. service members through various initiatives. The airline collaborates with organizations such as Luke's Wings and Wounded Warriors to provide free flights for immediate family members visiting injured service members. Additionally, Spirit partners with Honor Flight South Florida, flying World War II and Korean War veterans to Washington D.C. to visit memorials built in their honor. In spring 2023, Spirit facilitated travel for over 80 veterans and plans another Honor Flight this summer.
The Spirit Charitable Foundation also focuses on supporting active-duty military and veterans, having donated over $600,000 to related nonprofits in the past five years. The airline employs hundreds of military reservists and veterans, offering support through the Veterans Resource Group and Allies, which ensures resources and opportunities for Spirit team members who have served in the U.S. military.
