Stout’s Island Lodge, a historic resort located on a private island in Wisconsin’s Red Cedar Lake, has reopened for the summer season as of May 17. Situated in Birchwood, this unique destination is about a two-hour drive northeast of Minneapolis.

This season, guests can enjoy a variety of activities on the 12-acre island, including canoeing, fishing, kayaking, and swimming. Additionally, there are facilities for badminton, bocce ball, croquet, and tennis, as well as a labyrinth for meditative walks and a trail on the 5.7-acre East Island.

Access to Stout’s Island is provided by a ferry service running hourly from the Shore House between 7:50 a.m. and 10 p.m., making the journey part of the adventure.

The lodge itself has a storied past, dating back to its original purchase by lumber baron Frank S. Stout in 1903. The main lodge, rebuilt in 1912, features cedar logs from Idaho and redwood timbers from California, preserving the historical architecture while incorporating modern amenities.

Birchwood, the surrounding area, is known for its natural beauty and outdoor recreation opportunities. Red Cedar Lake is popular for its clear waters and excellent fishing, attracting anglers from across the region. The area's rich history is reflected in local attractions, such as the nearby Timberland Hills, which offer extensive hiking and skiing trails.

As Stout’s Island Lodge welcomes guests for the summer season, it continues to serve as a retreat, combining historical significance with the natural splendor of Wisconsin’s lake country. Visitors are invited to explore the diverse activities that make this destination a notable choice for summer getaways.
