Sun Country Airlines Launches Direct Flights from Dulles to Minneapolis
On a bright, sunny Wednesday, Dulles International Airport became the focal point for travel enthusiasts and industry professionals as Sun Country Airlines inaugurated its direct flight service from Washington D.C. to Minneapolis, Minnesota. This new route marks a significant expansion for the airline and offers a large-capacity aircraft that accommodates 186 passengers.
Richard Golinowski, Vice President and Manager of Dulles International, emphasized the airport's commitment to customer service and growth. "Our team at Dulles International is dedicated to providing outstanding service and welcoming new growth opportunities with partners like Sun Country Airlines," he stated during the launch.
The addition of Sun Country Airlines increases the total number of carriers operating at Dulles to 42. In 2023, the airport serviced over 25 million passengers, making it the fastest-growing international hub in the U.S. Conveniently linked to the city center via the Silver Line Metrorail, Dulles offers affordable transportation options for travelers.
Rose Nell, Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Officer at Sun Country Airlines, expressed enthusiasm about the new service. "This route offers Minnesota residents a direct link to the rich historical and cultural sites of the Washington D.C. area, while inviting D.C. residents to explore the natural beauty of Minnesota, the land of 10,000 lakes," she commented.
The new route is part of Sun Country's summer expansion, adding 10 new cities to its network. The service will operate three times weekly in the spring, increasing to six times weekly during the peak summer period, and decreasing to four times weekly in the fall. This strategic expansion aims to cater to the high demand for travel between these popular destinations, enhancing connectivity and offering more choices for travelers.
