The airports with the longest and shortest gate times in the United States have been named

It's not just the lines and long security checks that can get in the way of passengers on their way to a flight. The distance from the check-in counter to the gate can also play a role when the time to departure is counting down to minutes.

Some terminals are more than a few miles long, so in some cases, passengers have to spend tens of minutes on the road. KURU Footwear analyzed maps and Google Maps to determine the distance in each terminal to the nearest and farthest gate, USA Today reports.

A long walk can be a challenge at the busiest airports. It is these large transportation hubs that have provided wide and long halls during the design.

Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport in Dallas, Texas has a gate path that is 2.16 miles long.

The fastest terminal-to-gate walk is at Blue Grass Airport in Lexington, Kentucky, at 0.11 miles.

Other places where the journey can take a long time include Washington Dulles International Airport in Dulles (1.62 miles), George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston (1.52 miles), and Denver International Airport in Denver (1.45 miles).

Lesser time to the gate is spent at Westchester County Airport in White Plains (0.12 miles) and Harrisburg International Airport in Middleton (0.13 miles).
