Four years after the Smith family had given up all hope of finding their lost cat, they received the call: "We have your Blueberry."

The beloved black cat, who disappeared in November 2019 from the family home in Bangor, County Down, on the coast of Northern Ireland, turned up in County Galway in the west of Ireland, according to The Guardian.

A man from the village of Moycullen noticed the cat, which was wandering near the SuperValu supermarket, appeared sick, and took it to a local veterinarian.

"He had feline flu," said Rachel Russell, a veterinary nurse at the clinic. "He was very obedient and friendly. He seemed a bit uncomfortable and tense, but he still sought human attention."

The cat had a microchip, but a search of Ireland's pet database yielded no results. Then the vets tried Europetnet, which covers 26 European countries, and found a match in the UK.

They discovered that his name was Blueberry, that he was 10 years old, and that he had embarked on his journey four years earlier, more than 150 miles away.
