The list of bankrupt European airlines that have closed down will be replenished with one of the most famous among tourists. Maltese national carrier Air Malta has gone bankrupt and is now a thing of the past due to financial difficulties and the rejection of a request for support from the EU.

Air Malta has informed its customers that it has canceled all bookings for Air Malta flights for travel on or after March 31, 2024, and that it has refunded all direct customers the full price (including taxes) of any tickets, airmalta.com reports.

The company has 50 years of experience - Air Malta started its operations in 1974. "After long and difficult negotiations with the European Union, the Maltese government has decided to terminate the carrier's operations. This decision was taken after Air Malta was unable to find a solution to its financial difficulties and its request for financial support from the European Union was rejected," the Maltese press writes.

Air Malta will continue to operate all its scheduled flights until March 30, 2024. Customers can continue to book and purchase tickets as usual. It is then to be gradually replaced by Malta Airlines. This new company will serve 17 airports in Europe. It is said that it will be partially owned by private enterprises through a share issue or strategic partnership.
