The coastal town of Forster in New South Wales, on Australia's northern coast, was decorated for the winter holidays, but the community was not happy. The Christmas tree, according to residents, looks "pathetic."

The efforts of local government officials responsible for the decorations were called "shameful." A Facebook post by a user named Midcoast Aerial Photography attracted worldwide attention and forced the local council to respond to the outrage, the New York Post reports.

The photo shows that the Christmas tree was decorated with garlands that lay horizontally on the branches. And that's all. The author of the post claims that it took three days and cost $8,000 to decorate.

"Despite all the money, effort, and advertising that goes into tourism by people like me and the many other dedicated content creators, businesses, and organizations in the region that bring people to our beautiful area, there is nothing that screams neglect and lack of interest more than an ill-conceived, rushed, ugly, un-Christmassy rope light installation on what is arguably one of the most visible trees in all of Forster-Tuncurry," the text reads.
