Therapy llamas are now available for travellers at Portland Airport
To provide emotional comfort and ease during the flight, Portland International Airport arranged for passengers a meeting with two llamas. The llamas, which were taken from the local farm Portland Mountain Peaks Therapy Llamas & Alpacas, walked around Hall C and interacted with passengers waiting for their flights.
The Daily Courier reported that this tradition has been going on at the airport for about a decade since the first attempt to bring llamas to the airport. It is noted that passengers were surprised by this meeting, but enthusiastically approached the animals to pet them before departure.
"It was wonderful to see how many smiles they brought to travellers and the PDX team while they were here. They were welcomed with open arms, as we expected Portland to do," said Port of Portland Marketing Manager Allison Ferre.
It is noted that these are not the only animals that have visited the airport. At Portland International Airport, cats and puppies could be found walking around the terminal as emotional support throughout 2023.
