As the summer travel season approaches, 41 US airports are offering non-stop European flights, according to OAG data for May to September 2024. Notably, San Antonio has joined this list with its first-ever long-haul service.

Here are the ten US airports with only one European route this summer:

  1. Anchorage: Served by Condor and Discover with flights to Frankfurt.
  2. Cleveland: Aer Lingus operates a route to Dublin.
  3. Fort Myers: Discover Airlines offers flights to Frankfurt.
  4. Hartford: Aer Lingus connects to Dublin.
  5. Nashville: British Airways flies to London Heathrow.
  6. New Orleans: British Airways also connects to London Heathrow.
  7. Oakland: Azores Airlines operates a route to Terceira.
  8. St. Louis: Lufthansa offers flights to Frankfurt.
  9. San Antonio: Condor operates a new route to Frankfurt.
  10. San Juan, Puerto Rico: Iberia connects to Madrid.

These routes highlight the unique European connections available from smaller or less traditionally international US airports. San Antonio's new service is particularly significant, offering connections to Lufthansa's extensive network via Frankfurt.

Stewart International Airport and Pittsburgh International Airport would have been on this list, but each now has two European routes. Stewart added Atlantic Airways flights from the Faroe Islands, complementing PLAY's service from Keflavik. Pittsburgh added Icelandair flights from Keflavik alongside British Airways from London Heathrow.

The list is two airports shorter than in 2023. Fairbanks lost Condor's seasonal flights from Frankfurt, and San Jose, California, no longer sees British Airways from Heathrow, which had resumed briefly post-pandemic.

Looking back to 2019, other US airports previously with a single European route, like Charleston, Indianapolis, and Kansas City, have lost all transatlantic service. Memphis once had Delta flights to Amsterdam, a route inherited from Northwest Airlines.

This summer, travelers can look forward to unique European connections from these ten US airports, showcasing the dynamic nature of international air travel.
