The Angel Flight Railroad in Los Angeles is a historic gem that opened in 1901 and offers a unique way to travel between Hill Street and Grand Avenue. More than 100 million tourists have ridden this train.

Passengers on the Angel Flight can enjoy a short trip within the city and access other Los Angeles attractions. The trip costs $1 each way," writes TheTravel website.

The history of "Angel Flight"

This 118-year-old gem has a rich history. The Angel Flight Railroad was originally located in a different place than it is today. It is a cable car that passengers can ride between Hill Street and Grand Avenue. Since its opening, more than 100 million tourists have ridden this train, and after its renovation in 2017, millions more will be able to do so over the next 30 years.

Unlike other scenic rail journeys that visitors can take from Los Angeles, this trip keeps them within the city limits, opening the door to many other attractions they can visit in Los Angeles during their stay.

The Angel Flight Railroad has been featured in more than a hundred movies and TV shows and even in video games. Famous films and shows include Criss Cross, The Muppets, Perry Mason and the Academy Award-winning La La Land, to name but a few.

How do I get to this railroad?

The boarding point for the shortest train in the United States is California Plaza. The main station is located at 351 South Hill Avenue. The lower entrance is located across from Grand Central Market. The railroad was built in and around Bunker Hill and makes it easy to take a short but unforgettable mini-trip through the neighborhood.

You can ride the Angels Flight Railway daily from 6:45 am to 10 pm. The railroad is also open on holidays. The trip will cost travelers only $1 one way ($2 for a round-trip ticket).

For residents of Los Angeles, commuter tickets are also available, which are sold in the form of a book of 40 tickets for $30 or a book of five tickets for $4.

TAP Card holders receive a $50 discount. Visitors can tap their card inside the station to enjoy the discount. There are various ways to purchase and load TAP Cards, including online at taptogo.net, by calling 866.TAPTOGO, at vending machines at Orange Line and Metro stations, and at ticket outlets.

What to expect on a short trip?

Each car has 16 seats, built in the form of a staircase: the lower levels offer the best view as the car travels upwards. Despite the fact that the cars have been renovated, they look the same as always: some noise and shaking should be expected

Get up and down Bunker Hill quickly: for just $1, visitors can avoid a long walk around Bunker Hill, which can be uncomfortable in the heat.

Whether you're taking advantage of this shortest route to Bunker Hill or hoping to snap some iconic Instagram shots, the shortest train ride in the United States is well worth the effort.
