TOP-5 largest US airports by number of flights

The United States has one of the largest commercial aviation markets. The country is home to the largest airports and airlines.

Simple Flying publishes a list of the largest US airports by number of flights in 2024. The data is based on information from FlightsFrom.com and shows the average number of daily flights scheduled for this year.

Charlotte Douglas International Airport is in 5th place. Total number of flights per day: 672. The airport was opened in 1935. The number of passengers in 2022 is 48 million. Located just miles from the downtown area, it is the primary airport for commercial and military use in the Charlotte metropolitan area.

Denver International Airport is ranked third. In 2024, the airport will provide an average of 809 daily flights. Due to its incredible size, it is the largest airport in the Western Hemisphere and the second largest in the world.

Located about 40 km from downtown Denver, the airport is a central hub for United Airlines. The airport also serves as an operating base for Frontier Airlines and Southwest Airlines. In 2022, more than 69 million passengers passed through the airport's doors with more than 615,700 aircraft departures and arrivals.

The 2nd place is occupied by Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, which offers an average of 841 daily flights in 2024. It is the main airport serving the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and the North Texas region. In 2022, the airport was named the second busiest airport in the world by passengers. The airport is the second largest single hub in the world served by American Airlines.

Opened in 1973, Dallas Fort Worth Airport serves as an operating base for Frontier Airlines and Spirit Airlines. In 2022, more than 73 million passengers passed through the airport's doors with more than 656,600 departures and arrivals.

Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport ranks first, offering an average of 850 daily flights in 2024. Located 16 km south of downtown Atlanta, it is the city's main airport. It is also the busiest airport in the world by passenger numbers. The airport is the world's largest single hub served by Delta Airlines.

Opened in 1926, the airport serves as an operating base for Frontier Airlines, Southwest and Spirit Airlines. In 2023, almost 105 million passengers passed through the airport's doors with more than 579,300 departures and arrivals.
