Uber has launched a new service called UberX Share in Madrid, Spain, aimed at promoting sustainable travel while offering users potential savings of up to 30% through ride-sharing.

Announced during an event in Madrid, UberX Share introduces a ride-sharing option where users traveling in the same direction can share part or the entirety of their journey, reducing costs for everyone involved. This initiative is part of Uber's broader effort to enhance urban sustainability.

The new service, UberX Share, is designed to be at least 8% cheaper than the standard UberX option, which is already popular among users. This move represents an evolution of Uber's carpooling initiatives previously implemented in various cities across Europe and the United States, such as Paris and Stockholm.

In addition to the introduction of UberX Share, Uber also announced the integration of train ticket reservations across Spain into its app. This integration, facilitated through a partnership with ground transportation platform Omio, allows users to seamlessly book train tickets and hire cars for the same journey directly from the Uber app. This initiative builds upon a similar partnership established in the United Kingdom two years prior.

Felipe Fernández Aramburu, the director of Uber in Portugal and Spain, emphasized the company's commitment to fostering sustainable practices within cities. He cited successful implementations of similar initiatives in other urban centers, highlighting the positive feedback received from millions of users who have embraced ride-sharing as a means to save money and reduce environmental impact.

Uber reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability by pledging to transition to a zero-emission platform in Europe and the United States by 2030, with a global target set for 2040. This commitment underscores Uber's ongoing efforts to mitigate its environmental footprint and contribute to a more sustainable future for transportation.
