Late boarding on flights has become a viral trend on platforms like TikTok, celebrated for its life hacks. One popular tip suggests boarding last to secure better seating options and avoid the rush.

Gareth Llewellyn, a travel and luxury golf holiday expert at Chaka Travel, challenges this notion. He highlights two critical reasons why boarding late may not be as advantageous as it seems.

According to Gareth, the primary risk of late boarding revolves around limited overhead storage space. By the time latecomers board, most passengers have already stowed their carry-on luggage, leaving little room for additional items. This often results in travelers having to store their bags farther from their seats or even gate-check them, leading to inconvenient delays upon arrival.

Additionally, late boarders may face seat reassignments to accommodate families or other passengers, as airlines reserve the right to adjust seating arrangements at their discretion. This can be frustrating for passengers expecting a specific seat.

Furthermore, late boarders risk missing crucial announcements made by flight attendants during the boarding process. These announcements can include important safety information or updates that affect the journey ahead, leaving latecomers less prepared.

Instead of relying on TikTok hacks, Gareth suggests several practical strategies for a smoother travel experience. Airlines frequently offer early boarding privileges through loyalty programs or partnerships with credit card companies. Selecting preferred seating during booking, such as exit rows or front seats, can also ensure more comfortable accommodations.

Online tools are available to help passengers identify optimal seating based on flight duration and aircraft type. Strategic packing of carry-on bags ensures they fit under seats, reducing the need for gate check-ins.

In conclusion, while TikTok offers innovative travel advice, Gareth advises travelers to consider practicality. Planning ahead and utilizing available resources will ultimately lead to a more enjoyable and stress-free journey.
