Tourists and travelers have different experiences when visiting different cities around the world, but the general trends are usually similar. Macroeconomic difficulties and geopolitical turbulence will soon have a significant impact on the hospitality industry in 2024.

Experts have compiled a list of the TOP most unfriendly cities around the world, and outbound international travel will continue to outpace inbound travel. At the same time, it is expected that in 2024, consumers are likely to continue to spend significant amounts on travel, despite economic instability, Insider Monkey writes.

As noted in the article, this rating was compiled on the basis of a consensus approach. In particular, the rating indicators are based on the measurement of the unfriendliness of each city, which is based on the following indicators

  • frequency of rude behavior of tourists (25 points)
  • cultural sensitivity (20 points);
  • crime (15 points).
  • Each city was then assigned a cumulative score according to the above criteria and the 30 cities with the highest scores were selected. Subsequently, each entry was ranked based on the total number of points scored, from lowest to highest.

The 30th place was taken by French Cannes with a total score of 23. It is emphasized that despite the excellent location and picturesque landscapes, many tourists consider this city extremely unfriendly. In particular, locals are considered extremely rude and impolite towards tourists.

29th place was taken by the city of Providence in the United States with a total score of 24. According to numerous reviews, locals are rude to strangers. In general, Rhode Island is considered one of the most indecent places in the United States.

The Italian city of Naples took 28th place with a total score of 27. This southern city has an extremely high crime rate. Petty crimes are a real feature of Naples, such as pickpocketing, so it is difficult for tourists to explore the city.

The 27th place was taken by the city of Cincinnati in the United States with a total score of 27. According to law enforcement officials, the most common type of crime in Cincinnati is theft, which is especially common in some crowded areas. In addition, locals in the city are not perceived as friendly to non-locals.

In 26th place was the city of Fort Lauderdale in the United States with an overall score of 28. This city has long been perceived as unwelcoming, as many tourists report that locals are not good at communicating with people and are not helpful. This makes travelers' journeys extremely unpleasant.

25th place was taken by the American St. Louis witha total score of 30. An extremely high crime rate is recorded here. St. Louis has been recognized as one of the most dangerous cities in the United States, as petty and violent crime is extremely common.

And the top cities in this ranking look like this:

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, took the 5th place with a total score of 53. The main reason for this is the sharp increase in the number of petty crimes and frauds faced by tourists. There is a high level of pickpocketing, especially in crowded places.

The 4th place is taken by Delhi in India with a total score of 54. Many tourists in the city lack cultural sensitivity, which makes the locals unfriendly to tourists. The crime rate in Delhi is also extremely high.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, is on the 3rd place with a total score of 55. The locals are perceived by tourists as rude because they are too reserved. It is noted that this prevents them from interacting positively with tourists.

The 2nd place was taken by the city of Mumbai from India with a total score of 55. It is not very safe for tourists, as this city is considered one of the centers of organized crime in India. Mumbai is considered one of the most unfriendly cities in India for non-locals. Moreover, tourists also consider taxi drivers to be rude, which made it difficult for them to travel.

The city of Marrakech from Morocco took the 1st place with a total score of 57. Many tourists reported that locals even cheated them several times during their travels. Tourists in Marrakech should also beware of petty crime.
