United Airlines will suspend flights on a popular destination in 2024
United Airlines, following Air Canada, has decided to suspend flights to the Chilean capital of Santiago. The route from Houston will be closed from March 30, 2024, and will not return until the end of October next year.
Recently, Air Canada took a similar step by suspending flights between Toronto Pearson and Santiago, Simple Flying writes. The reason remains unknown.
Boeing 767-300ER aircraft operate daily from Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) to Santiago's Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport (SCL).
There are currently no other flights to Chile. According to the publication, in October, United Airlines sold 11,500 tickets on the Houston-Santiago route.
Now travelers will have to fly from other airports. The airline redirected most passengers to alternative flights via Panama with Copa Airlines or Bogota with avianca.
As you know, United continues to operate daily flights between Houston and Santiago. American Airlines, Delta and LATAM also fly to Chile from other hubs.
