On July 29, the French government reported serious disruptions in telecommunications services caused by acts of vandalism targeting fiber and mobile lines across the country. These actions affected tourist cities preparing for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, causing significant concerns among tourists and locals.

Telecom operators Bouygues and Free confirmed widespread service disruptions affecting six administrative departments, including the Marseille region — a popular destination for tourists. Local media reported that cables were deliberately cut at key points in southern France, Luxembourg, and Paris, creating additional difficulties for tourists who found themselves cut off from communication and information in these regions.

Additionally, acts of vandalism significantly impacted transportation networks, directly affecting tourists. Earlier, arson attacks on railway networks caused significant travel disruptions, affecting about 800,000 people and leading to the cancellation of trips for 100,000 passengers. These incidents created extra challenges for tourists planning their routes and sparked a wave of dissatisfaction.

These acts of vandalism raise serious concerns about the safety of tourists and participants in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Ensuring uninterrupted communication and transportation is crucial for the successful hosting of the Games and the comfort of tourists. Authorities strongly recommend that tourists remain vigilant and follow the instructions of local authorities to ensure their safety.

As major international events like the 2024 Paris Olympics approach, the recent acts of vandalism highlight the importance of protecting infrastructure. Tourists planning to visit France in the near future are advised to stay informed of the news and take precautions. The proactive stance of the French government and the collective vigilance of telecom operators and security services will be crucial in ensuring the safety and comfort of tourists during the Olympic Games and beyond.
