Viking, known for its destination-focused cruises, has announced an exciting addition to its itineraries: the Spirit of Mongolia extension program. This new offering allows guests to delve deeper into the rich traditions of Mongolia, complementing Viking's China voyages. The program spans five nights and offers a fully guided experience, providing travelers with the opportunity to explore the ancient city of Ulaanbaatar and venture into the vast expanse of the Gobi Desert.

Beginning in 2024, guests can opt for the Spirit of Mongolia extension either before or after their China voyage. The journey starts in Ulaanbaatar, where travelers will be greeted by Viking representatives. Here, they will have the chance to visit the Chinggis Khaan National Museum, showcasing Mongolia's vibrant cultural heritage, before delving into the world of paleontology at the museum's lab.

From Ulaanbaatar, the adventure continues to Dalanzadgad, where guests will be transported to the Three Camel Lodge, nestled amidst the breathtaking landscapes of the Gobi Desert. Accommodations at the eco-lodge include traditional gers, providing a unique blend of authenticity and comfort. Over the course of three days, travelers can engage in various activities such as archery, camel safaris, and explorations of the renowned Flaming Cliffs.

For those with a penchant for early mornings, guided sunrise treks through the desert hills offer unparalleled views, while culinary enthusiasts can learn the art of making traditional Mongolian dumplings from the lodge's chef. After immersing themselves in the wonders of the Gobi Desert, guests will return to Ulaanbaatar for one final night of exploration before either heading home or embarking on their Viking China voyage.

In addition to the Spirit of Mongolia extension, Viking offers four other immersive pre and post extensions for travelers eager to discover more of China's diverse landscapes and rich cultural heritage. These extensions range from exploring the iconic cityscapes of Beijing and Hong Kong to experiencing the natural beauty of Guilin and Suzhou.

Viking's China voyages encompass a range of itineraries, each offering a unique perspective on this captivating destination. From the Best of China's 20-day exploration of iconic landmarks to the Classic China & the Coast's combination of cultural immersion and scenic coastal cruising, there's something for every traveler seeking to uncover the wonders of the Middle Kingdom.

To complement these voyages, Viking has introduced the Viking Yi Dun, a dedicated ship designed to enhance guests' experiences both on board and ashore. With its Scandinavian design, all-veranda staterooms, and abundant dining options, the Viking Yi Dun promises a seamless blend of luxury and exploration as travelers embark on their Chinese odyssey.

Whether marveling at the Great Wall, encountering rare wildlife, or immersing oneself in local cultures, Viking's China voyages offer an unparalleled opportunity to discover the richness and diversity of this ancient land. With the addition of the Spirit of Mongolia extension, travelers can now embark on an even more comprehensive journey through the heart of Asia.
