Although Hungarian cuisine is mostly centered on non-vegetarian food and dairy products, it also boasts a variety of dishes that vegetarians can enjoy. Due to the country's geographical features, many of these vegetarian offerings include a number of seasonal fruits and vegetables.

If you're travelling to Hungary, be sure to include the following foods on your "must-eat" list. Newsbytesapp.com writes about the most delicious things to try for a vegetarian.

Turogomboc

Turogomboc is a dumpling with cheese, which is available in a variety of fillings in Hungary. These dumplings are covered with breadcrumbs, and locals usually enjoy them with either cream cheese or powdered sugar. They also go well with jams or sauces. Some also flavour it with vanilla or cinnamon.

Borsófőzelék

Borsófőzelék is a Hungarian dish that is offered in vegetarian and vegan variations with green peas as the main ingredient. This thick soup is made from flour, milk, chopped onions, vegetable oil, water, and Hungarian paprika, seasoned with salt and pepper. Known for its creamy texture and rich flavour, it is a comforting and nutritious Hungarian specialty.

Gulyás

Goulash is one of the most popular and traditional dishes in Hungary. And yes, the vegetarian version is just as great. It is a soup made with vegetables such as onions, potatoes, carrots, and paprika. Vegetarian goulash can also contain tomato sauce, tempeh, pasta, zucchini, and much more.

Lecsó

Lecho is another famous dish among the locals of Hungary. It is a thick vegetable stew made of tomatoes, onions, yellow hot peppers, salt, and ground paprika. Some may even add garlic. The onions and peppers are usually sautéed in sunflower oil, which gives them a great flavour and appeal. You can enjoy this offering with rice or pancakes.
