If you have long wanted to get away from the bustling city and live in a secluded place close to nature, choose one of the five US states. There, an autonomous existence will be most comfortable.

The list of the best states for such an idea was published by the Study Finds portal. The regions of America were analyzed by a set of factors that will make your stay there as convenient as possible, but at the same time environmentally friendly.

We are talking about the cost of living, freedom of action, access to food and water, electricity availability, and the community that inhabits the state.

1. Alabama

This state leads the ranking. Its score is 9.8 out of 10. It ranks first in several lists at once. Alabama received the best overall score. The warm climate and affordable land prices make these areas especially attractive for off-grid living.

2. California

California is called the land of milk and honey. The name alludes to the state's developed agricultural industry. Farmland is one of the reasons why it is highly recommended for an off-grid lifestyle.

A well-known off-grid community in California is Emerald Earth. JeffSetter Travel calls Northern California the largest off-grid community in the United States. Southern California is expensive and cramped to live in, but the northern part of the state already has many communities of people living on their own, both as individual families and large groups.

3. Missouri

This is a great place to truly escape from the world. Most of the state is ideal for living away from civilization. The state has fair land prices, no strict land ownership laws, plenty of water and opportunities to grow food. It also has a mild climate.

4. Alaska

This is probably the most popular state where people live off the grid. The laws of Alaska are so nice that they were designed for off-grid living. There are no prohibitions on gardening and animal husbandry. This is a state for complete isolation from society.

5. Tennessee

Tennessee is one of the best states for off-grid living. It has a warm, humid, long growing season and rich soil. Fresh water flows from the Appalachian Mountains, and land is cheap. The community in most parts of the state has remained rural and self-sufficient.
