Zenobē and Big Bus Tours Introduce Electric Buses for London Sightseeing

Zenobē, a company specializing in transport electrification, has partnered with Big Bus Tours to launch 20 eco-friendly open-top buses and the necessary charging infrastructure. This initiative is set to transform the sightseeing experience in London, providing travelers with a greener option for exploring the city.

The new electric buses will serve popular London landmarks, including Big Ben, Tower Bridge, and the Tower of London. This move aligns with the growing trend of sustainable tourism, as 79% of global travelers have expressed a preference for environmentally friendly transport while on holiday.

Zenobē is financing the e-buses and has entered its first retrofit project with Big Bus. The old diesel buses, which have been in service for ten years, are being upgraded with a 328 kWh LG Chem Battery and powertrain by Equipmake Limited. This retrofit will help reduce the carbon footprint of sightseeing tours in London.

In addition to the buses, Zenobē has installed 10 temporary Direct Current (DC) chargers at Big Bus’s Wimbledon depot. This installation allows the retrofitted fleet to operate during the busy spring and summer tourist seasons, even before the local electricity grid upgrade is completed. The last of the first 10 buses has just started service, with another 10 expected by the end of the year.

Travelers exploring London can now do so with a reduced environmental impact. The introduction of these electric buses offers a more sustainable way to see the city’s iconic sights, contributing to a greener future. By choosing these eco-friendly buses, tourists are supporting efforts to reduce pollution and promote cleaner air in one of the world’s most visited cities.
